Isa sa mga pinakamalaking container vessels sa buong mundo, mga pinoy ang gumawa!

Once again, Filipinos have raised the bar. Several Filipino craftsmen were lauded after their dedicated efforts in creating the world’s largest commercial ship right here in the country.

Based on a report by GMA News, Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction-Philippines revealed their finished craft on January 25, Thursday. It took many Filipino craftsmen to successfully build the 20,600-TEU container vessel made in Subic, Zambales.

For clarity, TEU means Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit and is a measurement of how much cargo a ship can carry. One TEU is about 20 feet in length by 8 feet in width.

The magnificent vessel was assembled in the Subic Bay shipyard. The ship’s vast dock can store and transport as much as 20,950 40-foot shipping containers. According to Kicker Daily, the massive ship measures about 400 meters in length, 59 meters in width, and 33 meters in depth.

If you find those measurements difficult to grasp, just imagine the size of four football fields side by side. That’s how massive the container vessel is. Moreover, it took more than two years to assemble and build this gigantic commercial ship.

While the project was originally commissioned by a Korean company Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction, naval architect and managing director Jo Yoo-Hoan expressed his delight with working alongside skilled Filipino craftsmen.

“We’re very proud of it, with the Philippine workers and the staff, very proud of them. They are so organized, so kind, and so skillful. Wonderful, you know, workers. Our relationship between Korea and Philippines is fantastic.”
